A Charming Blend brings two of Kappes’s series together in one magical Christmas novella. Roxy Bloom (from the Killer Coffee series) and her husband Patrick are off to the magical town of Whispering Falls for their honeymoon. While reading the Whispering Falls newspaper, June Heal (from the Magical Cures series) reads about Roxy’s inquisitive nature and mixes her a potion meant to keep her firmly concentrated on her husband Patrick so that she doesn’t notice the magical nature of the town. Unfortunately there was nothing June could do about the dead body Roxy comes upon at the Christmas Tree lighting and of course with Roxy’s inquisitive nature, she just has to investigate. With the help of Mr. Prince Charming, her feline familiar, June helps Roxy search for the killer while trying to keep Roxy blind to the truth of their magical little town.I was happy to see a story blending two of the author’s series and it was fun to see these two sleuths, from very different worlds, crime solving together. The story pulls you right in and is easily read, although those without some prior exposure to either series may not fully appreciate it due to missing the backstory of the characters. This is a light cozy mystery with a quick pace and can easily be read in one sitting. The characters are engaging and as an animal lover I enjoyed the character of Mr. Prince Charming. This humorous and charming novella is the perfect little Christmas read, whether you’re a fan of Tonya’s work or not, and as a fan I definitely hope to see more crossovers like this in the future.
