Description

William Robinson, brought up by his uncle at Worton Hall in Wensleydale, finds his life crossing paths with Mary, Queen of Scots, a prisoner at Bolton Castle, and with members of the Metcalfe family at Nappa Hall, arch enemies to the Robinsons. This story traces William's early life in Wensleydale, his childhood friendship with Kit and Bess Fawcett, his involvement with Queen Mary's escape from Bolton Castle, and the choices William makes while training to be a lawyer in Durham at the time of the Catholic Northern Rebellion. It contrasts Mary's life of enforced confinement under the command of Queen Elizabeth I with William's career and family life in the Dales he his marriage, relationships with his children and grandchildren, and the ongoing feud between William's family and the Metcalfes, which reaches a climax on the remote shores of Semerwater in 1618...
