Abandon by Meg cabotCharacters: Pierce, John, named side characters Pierce is like the anti-Bella she knows she should stay away and tries to more or less how ever she does suffer from the “helpless” YA heroine syndrome however coming back from the dead should give her a pass however if this occurs again in book two well... John is mysterious and that is really all we are given the side characters are lively and realistic and interesting. However they seem oddly...familiar john is very much like patch for one thing and Pierce is like almost every other YA female before her BStory: This story doesn't have chapters written at the top like a normal story, that should give anyone a clue that this is no average “paranormal romance” and it isn't. Our MC has died and come back to life for one thing for another the ML isn't there all that much why? Well this isn't a paranormal romance for one. This is a retelling or play off of a greek myth it's fast past and heart pounding with mysteries being thrown in your face every which turn and many questions being asked. The writing is phenomenal while not exactly unique out there in this big wide YA world it does stand out in its own way. However if you really look deep and anylize this story with no romance, an almost stalker ML, to many plot threads to weave together, questions left out in the open, flashbacks almost every other chapter and a revelation that comes out of no where because it was never hinted or lead up to in a way that would normally undoubtedly make a two star book.....so why didn't it? There is something about this story that stands out the mysteries still need to be solved, and the relationship is...different in a way. Meg Cabot is no where near the level of Becca Fitzpatrick in the ways of mystery weaving however at the same time there is something that just makes you want more BCover: Stunning! Finally something different a dead girl in a white dress with gold lettering and decoration all around with a tag line of “she knows what its like to die” this is not your average chick lit book for sure ARating: YACompany: ScholasticMy rating : 4 of 5 In sixth grade I actually did read the Hades and persephone myth as well if I remember correctly so I figured let me give this a shot also this was my first Meg cabot (cabot...like cat rabbit? Really? Tenchi myou!) novel and I HIGHLY HIGHLY enjoyed it! I am a fan! For sure but thats not to say this was perfect it wasn't and a lot happened that would normally frustrate me but the written was so refreshing after a two star book that I didn't really mind
