Description

In a world where the past can be as daunting as the shadows it casts, the story unfolds with a gripping intensity. Blake Crouch weaves a narrative that challenges the very fabric of reality, forcing his characters to confront choices that will haunt them forever. As they navigate a labyrinth of secrets and unforeseen consequences, the tension builds, revealing the depths of human emotion and resilience.

Crouch's masterful storytelling immerses readers in a landscape that feels both familiar and disturbingly eerie. The protagonist's journey through desolation and self-discovery is marked by moments of desperation and flickers of hope. Each chapter peels back layers of the past, exploring the intricate connections between love, loss, and redemption.

Amidst the chaos, characters grapple with their inner demons, wrestling with the repercussions of their actions. The haunting atmosphere serves as a backdrop for their struggles, creating a relentless pulse that drives the plot forward.

Ultimately, Crouch crafts a thought-provoking tale that lingers long after the final page is turned, leaving readers to ponder the nature of sacrifice and the enduring human spirit. Abandon is a gripping exploration of the choices that shape our destinies and the relentless quest for understanding in a world fraught with uncertainty.

Abandon started off strong with a solid sense of mystery and a bit of that ghost-town creep factor, but it never fully came together for me. The pacing dragged in the middle, and I found it hard to stay invested in who was who through all the time shifts. Crouch’s newer stuff like Recursion and Dark Matter are tighter, more focused, and easier to follow — this one felt like an early experiment that never quite hit that same stride. That said, there were parts I did enjoy, especially early on and again near the end. The concept had potential, but the execution made it feel more like a slog than a ride. Glad I finished it, but it won’t be one I revisit.
