Description

Set in the early 20th century, a seemingly joyous celebration takes a dark turn when an uninvited inspector arrives at the Birling family's home. As the evening unfolds, secrets and truths are exposed, revealing the characters' intricate connections to a mysterious young woman named Eva Smith.

The façade of respectability begins to crumble under the pressure of questions that probe deeper than mere personalities. With each revelation, the characters are forced to confront their actions and the broader implications on society and morality. The story weaves together themes of responsibility, class, and the harsh realities of human interactions.

As the inspector's presence looms larger, the family's sense of security is shattered, leading to a gripping exploration of conscience and accountability. This powerful narrative captivates with its portrayal of human weaknesses and the quest for understanding in an increasingly complex world.

🍷3 stars☎️I read this for school (actually it was 'An Inspector Calls and Other Plays', but I felt it would be unfair to leave the entire book a rating when I'm only rating the singular play).🫰Certain dialogue was funny.👍I liked Edna -- probably because I did my assignment on her.👌I know the whole point of the ending is to achieve what it achieved, but I still prefer clear endings over open endings.👎A lot of the characters had very underwhelming reactions (apart from Eric, who I think was probably the only realistic reaction). They weren't stressed and freaked out enough about what they thought was going to happen to them.👎It's not bad, it just kind of bored me -- but it was definitely better than reading some other dry text to analyse.
