Great read , just found it difficult at times, everyone was just so messed up😭
I went in kowing it was going to be dark… but I was NOT prepared for the absolute chokehold this would have on me. 🔥💀 This isn’t just mafia romance. This is twisted. Unhinged. Morally corrupt. Emotionally devastating. And I was glued to every second.Tiernan Callaghan???There’s morally gray… and then there’s Tiernan. Toxic. Possessive. Ruthless. And yet the way he loves Lila is so consuming it feels apocalyptic. Excuse me while I simply pass away. ⚰️ He is cruel. He is complicated. He is trauma wrapped in a tailored suit. But when his walls fall for her? When that ruthless Irish mafia prince turns patient and protective? I melted. Watching her go from pawn to powerhouse was EVERYTHING. Also the deaf representation 🥹🤍 As someone whose grandmother was born deaf, this hit differently. Lila is strong, layered, desirable, powerful , never reduced to her disability. I loved that so much.THE PLOT TWIST??? I’m still unwell.The narration by Corvin King?? TOP. TIER. His voice as Tiernan was sinful. The emotion, the menace, the tenderness, it elevated the entire experience. I didn’t just listen. I experienced it.Dark. Intense. Addictive. Sexy. Emotional.I cannot stop thinking about this world and I NEED the rest of the series immediately.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — an easy five-star listen.
This is my first book by LJ Shen. It is pretty dark, even by mafia standards. Morally gray is an understatement. There were some tough to read parts. In the first quarter to half of the book, I wasn't sure how the author was going to make me somehow turn around and like the MMC, but I trusted the process and was not let down. The burn is slow and the redemption is sweet. I feel like the only people who rated this poorly didnt read the content warning and that is honestly so annoying to me.
