I sort of hate finished this. It was like being stuck talking to the arrogant mansplainer at a party except it was hours of reading about him instead. I guess the ending was a bit of a payoff, but not enough for spending so much time with basically my least favorite type of person.

After reading My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney and really loving it, I was eager to read another one of her books. Sadly, this one was a letdown compared to the previous novel.

Completed in a day. Fast paced, and had me second guessing throughout. I can't say that the characters were likeable as you focus more on the turn of events, and get a surprise each time. Not my usual genre but was short at just over 300 pages and the pace and plot kept it moving so that it was hard to put down.

All's well that ends well? I guess? The concept of the book was very interesting, the setting was eerie and beautiful. But the book draaaaaagged oooooon so much. The plot twist was good, but the middle part of the book had me confused, bored and frustrated at the same time.

'I open the lid and see a creepy-looking antique doll with shiny dark hair and dressed in red coat. Her big blue glass eyes seem to stare right at me, and her mouth has been sewn shut.... my wife has disappeared' after reading these words, I was hooked! Grady is an author who is eagerly awaiting news on whether his new book has made it as a 'New York Times Bestseller.' His wife Abby should be by his side for the news, but is late home. He rings her while she is driving and almost home to update her. Whilst on the phone he hears the brakes as they are slammed on, his wife leave the car to see to a body on the road, then nothing... racing to the location the car is there, the body and his wife both missing. The rest of the book takes forward a year, his wife still missing, his life falling apart. Offered a chance to stay in a cabin on a small island in Scotland, a place to write in the hope of reigniting his career, Grady makes the long journey from London. But who is the lady he keeps seeing in the red coat and why are things not quite as they seem? This had everything I wanted in a book! It had me guessing at every turn and just when I thought I had an idea of what might be happening, boom, something else would come along to blow my theory away! A fantastic book that has left me with a new author to add to my favourite list and several more books to go on the TBR!

One of my favorite thrillers in a while with a twist that stunned me.
