I'm really divided when it comes to my thoughts on this book. The last 20%, had me invested, and I need to know what happens next! But the majority of the book was painfully frustrating at times, so much "mystery" not enough answers. Ths main character is this series biggest DOWNFALL so far. I felt very little character development for Diem throughout this book, I found myself getting very annoyed at her and felt her actions were contradictory majority of the time. I will continue with the series as I need to know what happens, fingers crossed I enjoy the remaining books. Sidenote, I love Luther and Taran, because of that, this book does get a higher rating than I originally thought, like I don't want to read about Diem, just give me them haha
The journey of Diem coming into her power of the throne to the events leading up to her coronation were grabbing hold of my emotions. With revelations of the past shoved into the present, revealing secrets and bits of information about the world, Glow held my full attention and gave me excited for the next book.
I’m struggling to decide if this is a 2 or 3 star book. It has such a good premise and conflict, but Diem the main character frustrated me so much that I almost didn’t finish this book. Her father has taught her to trust her instincts and she does so, except for when it comes to Luther in every single way. She asks questions to learn more, except from him. She is calculating and discerning, except when it’s about his actions. She is freely forgiving, but she is constantly willing to believe the worst in Luther. She feels safe and calm around him but decides to hate and distrust him despite her instincts telling her otherwise, all the while holding onto Henri even though he has actively betrayed her and not supported her many times?? And still at the end of book 2 she still feels guilty for not having broken up with him yet??? If anyone deserves to be ghosted it’s whiny-boy “I deserve to be King” Henri. I get it that’s he’s from her childhood and she still wants to cling to a sense of normalcy and nostalgia. But I have never met a character to more willing to ignore who she is, physically, spiritually, magically, emotionally. She has no idea who she is and she has no idea who Luther is. Us audience members know things way in advance, and it’s not satisfying when she finally catches up - it’s annoying because she should have figured it out way sooner from all that military, combat, and survival training her father gave her. Teller is the intelligent one but I wasn’t expecting Diem to be THAT dumb. It’s not cute when we can figure out that Luther has loved her from pretty much Day 1 and I’m betting they’re mates, but Diem is so far behind us that we can’t even see her on the horizon. It’s annoying. Only reason why I’m going to read book 3 eventually is because I am curious, so I guess it’s still a win for you Ms. Cole.
