I received eARC of Dark Devotion by C. Hallman for an honest review. First I must say you should check out the trigger warnings before you start reading this book. Dark Devotion is a fast-paced dark romance novella.The story follows Leona, a young woman who has stayed with a religious community after her mother passed away. After staying with the community for some time, she starts to notice that not everything is as it seems and she decides that she wants to leave now that she has turned 18, only to find out that she isn’t allowed to do so. After the failed attempt to run away, she gets caught and is locked in and watched over Elijah, a young and mysterious man living with the community together with his father and brother. Leona seems to be already in the beginning to be a strong FMC, but as we learn more about her personality and her situation, seeing that she hasn’t always been so strong, but more trusting and even naive, believing that people are always good. She is an interesting FMC to follow and learn together with. Elijah as our MMC is someone who I personally didn’t really like, as his personality fell flat for me. The story itself was interesting and worked well even when it was fast paced. I enjoyed two thirds of the story, but the ending felt sadly too rushed for me. I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
