Description
Rukeyser's essay has been published in Series I (Winter, 2009)in the Lost and Found series of the CUNY Poetics Document Initiative from archival work being done by students in the English Program at the Grad Center of CUNY. There are 4 other titles in this first series Baraka & Dorn, Koch & O'Hara, Philip Whalen, and Creeley/Marlatt. All beautifully produced! General Ammiel Alacalay. Rukeyser's "Darwin & the Writers," edited and with notes by Stefania Heim, was rejected by The Nation in 1959, never to be published until now. As Heim notes, "Rukeyser describes through example the ways in which scientific and poetic imaginations have been mutually constitutive, not merely in terms of subject matter but also formally and in their approaches to the world of ideas." Rukeyser's is a beautiful mind.
