This was my first dive into the world of fantasy. I am so glad I decided to pick this up and read it. I loved every aspect of this book! I can not wait to dive into the next one!!
this book was ok and predictable in some places.I could have done without the whole i am your brother. i tolerated it in star wars, but this.... you really wanted the characters to get together and then WHAM! you have just walked into a window!this book started off really well. if you could look past the predictability and the the brother /sister thing. it's a really good book. it also had humour to go with all the drama.once again your introduced toi more paranormal characters than you can poke a stick at.the first time i read this. i was so frustrated with the book. i vowed never to read it again. but i gave it a second chance. and now i have to find another book to use as a doorstop. this one (on reading it again) sucks you into the story, makes you attached to the characters, and tears your heart out with the twist in the story.i'll read the rest of the books. only out of curiousity (to see if the other ones are better).
City of Bones was one of the first paranormal books I read and it will always be a personal favourite. I loved Jace and Alec's relationship and Isabelle's character.
1.still hate clary2.hate how entitled simon acted even though clary NEVER showed any romantic interest in him
3 🌟 City of Bones was a fun and quick read, perfect for binge-reading. The pacing was great, balancing action, suspense, and moments of introspection, which kept me hooked throughout the book.At first, the dialogue felt a bit cringey and annoying, but once I remembered that the characters were just kids, it was easy to overlook, I guess, but it was sometimes annoying nonetheless. The world-building was one of the standout features for me. I haven't come across a fantasy world quite like this one before. The descriptions were vivid and clear, making it easy to imagine the world in my mind and understand what was going on. It felt fresh and unique, and I really appreciated that.As for the characters, I was a bit torn. Alec and Simon felt more grounded and real to me than the others. While I understand why some people might think Clary is "useless," I get that she’s just been thrown into a completely new world without the necessary skills or knowledge to be much help to anyone. She's still learning, and I think or hope her growth will come later in the series. The whole "incest" twist was a bit strange, but it's clear to me that it's more of a manipulation tactic than anything else. I’m still not entirely sure what purpose it serves in the plot, though.Valentine, the villain, didn’t impress me much. He felt underwhelming, and I didn’t quite get what I was expecting from him. He lacked the depth I thought he would have, which was a bit disappointing.Overall, City of Bones is a book that I enjoyed, even though it didn’t blow me away. It’s easy to get lost in the story, and I’m definitely curious to see where the series goes from here. I’m looking forward to reading the next book to see how the characters and plot develop.
The adventure starts now. City of Bones sets the scene and builds form the ground up. The Mundane and Shadow Hunter worlds collide. Shadow Hunters, Vampires, Werewolves, Humans they are all in this book. Cassandra Clare has created a whole new world overflowing with magic. I loved every inch of this book, from the characters to the events that take place.Meet Clary, she has lived her whole life in the mundane world not knowing what is out there. Until her 18th birthday everything changes and she discovers her whole life has been a lie. The Mortal Instruments is a book series of 6
Enjoyable though it didn't grab me like [b:A Discovery of Witches|8667848|A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1)|Deborah Harkness|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1322168805s/8667848.jpg|13190160] and [b:The Bone Season|17199504|The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1)|Samantha Shannon|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1388206451s/17199504.jpg|19248070]. There were quite a few funny quips from the characters but sometimes I felt the constant sarcasm was a bit too full on and draining.
