While trapped in a turbulent and controversial marriage to senator Dan Sickles, Jolie survived the awful death of her son. She pursued a new life, while entangled in a web of deceit and deception. The article renewed her resolve to find the truth behind her father, Ambrose McKenna. Jolie met Sagebrush in Hobbs, New Mexico setting in motion a series of events. These events connected her with gunfights, cattlemen, outlaws, Indians and ruthless politicians. Jolie found herself immersed in deceptions that masked the character of her father, veiled by the Shenandoah Mountains. Jolie’s search narrows on an incident in the Civil War that forged Ambrose as a southern Calvary officer. Eventually, the western landscape yielded forgotten secrets that drove Jolie deeper toward the unavoidable question, are her father Ambrose, a man of God and Cooper, a gunslinger the same man?
