Double Effect: Poems

In "Double Effect," Martha Serpas and Ava Leavell Haymon weave a tapestry of verse that delves into the complexities of moral dilemmas and the ripple effects of human actions. Drawing inspiration from philosophical inquiries, particularly the principle articulated by St. Thomas Aquinas, their poetry explores the delicate balance between intention and consequence. Each poem serves as a lens through which readers can examine the intricate web of choices that define existence.

Through vivid imagery and poignant reflections, the authors invite readers to contemplate how decisions, both large and small, shape individual lives and the broader world. The collection highlights the dualities present in life—joy and sorrow, clarity and confusion—offering a profound commentary on the human experience. As they navigate these themes, Serpas and Haymon craft an engaging narrative that resonates with the reader long after the final page.
