Description

In a world where warriors clash and dragons reign, Annwyl the Bloody stands out not just for her fierce reputation but also for the trials she faces as a woman in a predominantly male-driven society. Her nickname speaks volumes about her prowess in battle, but it also paints a target on her back. As rivals watch her every move, she navigates the complexities of proving herself in a realm where strength and cruelty are often prized above all.

Despite her ferocity, Annwyl grapples with her identity beyond the battlefield. The expectations placed upon her are overwhelming, and she longs for deeper connections and understanding. Enter the formidable dragon, a creature as captivating as it is powerful, whose presence adds a layer of complexity to her already tumultuous life. Their interactions challenge Annwyl to confront her own vulnerabilities and the nature of desire, forcing her to reconsider what it means to be a warrior, a woman, and ultimately, a leader.

As alliances form and battles loom, Annwyl must call upon every ounce of courage and cunning to protect those she loves and to carve out her legacy. The politics of dragons and humans intertwine, revealing treachery and passion in equal measure. The stakes are high, and every decision weighs heavily on her, as she discovers that the fiercest battles may not always be fought with weapons.

In a thrilling tale of adventure, friendship, and self-discovery, Annwyl confronts foes within and outside, proving that true strength lies not just in bloodshed but also in love, loyalty, and the courage to embrace one's true self.

Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken has been recommended several times but it seems it took the 10 LOL paranormal romance list to get to read it. I did not find this one to be LOL but it was still a fun read. Annwyl the Bloody has spent the last two years fighting her evil brother and his army, but this skirmish is likely her last. Fearghus the Destroyer, is large black dragon who can't be bothered by human follies, but he decides he cannot let Annwyl die. Interesting world, I like Aiken's dragons, especially Fearghus and his sister Morfyd. 3.5 stars
