Dreaming the Eagle (Boudica Trilogy)

England's Queen Boudica, who led her warriors to defend the Celtic culture against the Roman incursion in the first century A.D., has come to captivate the historical imagination. Scott's novel, the first in a planned trilogy, animates Boudica's adolescence with the verve of an eyewitness account. In 33 A.D., the eleven-year-old Breaca (later Boudica, or "Bringer of Victory") longs to become a Dreamer, a mystical leader who can foretell the future, but, having killed her mother's killer, has proven herself a warrior. Dreaming the Eagle sweeps from the turmoil of battle to the intimacy of Boudica's loving relationship with her brother, Ban; from the fight for honor to the magic of an animistic natural world that speaks back to the Celtic tribes.
