Description
As the story unfolds, readers are introduced to a host of compelling characters navigating this crumbling society. Amidst the turmoil, a young woman finds herself at the heart of a transformative journey, challenging the very foundations of her beliefs and desires. Alongside her, a prince faces insurmountable obstacles, determined to reclaim the glory of his city and its people. These intertwined destinies propel the narrative forward, revealing deeper themes of power, loss, and redemption.
Brandon Sanderson crafts an intricate tale, where the remnants of magic interact with the human experience. The struggle for hope and healing in the face of adversity drives the characters to confront their pasts and forge a new future. Elantris becomes not merely a backdrop but a reflection of the resilience of the human spirit, illustrating that even in the darkest of times, the possibility for change remains.

View AllTook me a while to finish because it's both a chunky book and I've been busy in my personal life lately, but it was absolutely worth sticking with this book until the end.I knew going in that this was Sanderson's debut novel, my first Sanderson book and one that the community doesn't seem to favour all that much in comparison to his other books, so I was open minded as I read it, not expecting perfection on the first go.The first half of the book is a bit of a drag, a lot of political back and forth, world building and explaining just about everything. Which is usually common for long fantasy novels like this, but past the halfway mark, the book changes completely. Everything becomes much more intriguing, things start to come together and characters really start developing. I really loved all of the main characters, while enjoying some of the side characters (while others felt a little flat).Overall, a very good debut novel, one that I thoroughly enjoyed the latter half of. Especially the characters Hrathen and Galladon, they are my two favourites and I love them both equally....Even if Hrathen clearly has the absolute best character development overall. :)
