Description

My book is a nonfiction account of my experiences with base of tongue cancer and unanticipated complications incurred in its aftermath. It is more than a harrowing account; rather it represents a totality of my experiences and emotions, including pain, frustration, anger, despair, and irony. The book also has a healthy dose of humor. The title "Envying Job" is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the biblical character Job, who experienced a plague of miserable events. My intent is to be informative but also entertaining. It is not a primer about what to expect if you have cancer, but is simply the story of how it affected me. The novel is filled with asides of human interest and every day events that must be faced even as catastrophe looms. "Envying Job" was written first person, present tense in effort to reflect a sense of immediacy and drama. The goal is ultimately to offer the reader an uplifting account of how life triumphs regardless of circumstances.
