*** Gifted in exchange for my honest review***The book has a slow, steady pace that introduces the characters and the world to the reader the story and the characters develop as the book progressed, giving the intended target audience (middle graders) the chance to enjoy the story and watch the characters as they grow and adapt. We watch as each character learns that each of them is more than the role that life has handed them.Sierra our lead character hates the I've she's been born into but suffers for the sake of her sister, putting up with an abusive father and its not until her fairy Queen disappeared and her father sells her sister off to someone worse than their father that she finally sets off on a quest to find her fairy Queen, with her best friend Corbin and with her fathers enforcer Nell along to keep an eye on her, the embark on a journey that reveals the task ahead is more complicated than they thought. I especially liked how Nell had to become something she didn't really want to be to help her family survive and how Sierra came to realise that it was wrong of her to judge her. They become a great team ready to overcome the task ahead, through adversity and self sacrifice . I also think that the book gives the reader food for thought on how we are also depleting our world and the story also brings into light physical abuse and drugs. I look forward to reading Mer Charmer next.
