⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️FuryBound is the compelling sequel in the Wolves of Ruin series. I have to say, while I enjoyed this one, I’m still having a hard time putting all of my thoughts together.I still really enjoyed the lore surrounding the Bonded and all of the characters. I especially loved the continued development between Anassa and Meryn as they grew further into their bond, and I really enjoyed all the tension and yearning building between Stark and Meryn.My biggest complaint was that the pacing slowed down and seemed to lose traction the further I got into the story. With that shift in pace, it also felt like a lot of the major plotlines established in book one changed course this time around. Some of the things that had been built up felt like they were resolved in a somewhat lackluster manner.There also seemed to be a shift in the overall focus of the story, with more emphasis being placed on the Tears and the divine. The Siphons and the Bonded were what captivated me so much in Direbound, and this book just didn’t have quite the same feel for me.Despite those complaints, I still found FuryBound to be an enjoyable read, and I’m definitely planning to continue on to the finale to see how everything comes together in book three.Tropes: bonded pairs, direwolf companions, political intrigue, Queen x Bodyguard vibes, grief, secrets & betrayals, magic, gods & goddesses
For the most part I liked the 2nd book more than the first, I think because I wasn't comparing it to Fourth Wing. I enjoyed the "adventures" that this book had, though I still felt like there could have been more world building and more character building. But, I was drawn in from the start, the pacing kept me completely enthralled in the story, and I'm looking forward to the next book. Was here parts that I didn't like? Yes That's literally true with every book though. Honestly, when I was just reading and only rating books so I'd remember if I liked them, and whether I liked them enough to reread them, or recommend them I overlooked those little things if they didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the book. Now I find myself thinking more about the little things, So would I reread this? Absolutely! Would I recommend it (to a romantasy reader) Absolutely!
4⭐ WTF!!! I was definitely not expecting that ending!This book suffers a bit from filler syndrome, but despite that it delivers a good narrative, some predictable twists and others not so much - and those broke my heart a little.Meryn comes across as less of a badass compared to book 1, but fairly so. She is now a queen. She has a country to protect, people who betrayed her but despite that, she believes it's right to protect them anyway - and not only that, she has more people she loves and wants by her side. That in a way weakened her confidence in her own power.On that note, I wish we saw more of it - not just the shadebending, but mostly the pack's power, how she strengthened it and used it more often(not just rifting/Kryptos).I loved the dual POV. Stark was a NICE addition. I loved getting inside his head during the development of the story - and the ending?? I wanted to scream!! I was not expecting that, and it seems like neither did Stark.I don't know why people said there was no tension between Meryn and Stark, but I personally have been feeling the tension since page 1 of Direbound, how long should have lasted?Killian and Alistair's deaths were a bit anticlimactic - I was expecting an epic conflict. It did keep me on my toes, but it was quickly resolved. That made me wonder: is Alistair truly dead, or was the true battle of this series never really him and the Siphon, but a war between Gods?
