I'm getting sick of being confused about my ratings. I definitely had some issues with this book, but I genuinely had a great time reading it. I'm not sure if my standards are in hell after reading so many books that were sub par or if its finally looking like I found a romantasy I like. But I will leave this as the 4 star I feel it is.I see a lot of comments about how much of a murderous villain our MMC is and I understand why people don't like him. But I loved that aspect.I was let down about how little magic we actually saw, or the lack of witch vigilante behavior. I loved feeling stressed the entire book waiting to see who discovered who first. The romance was the correct amount of romance for me. Most of it being about schemes and spying and not love, is my preference.I will be finishing this series though cause I need to see what happens to the villain.
4.5 ☆'sI read this as part of a buddy read and I can't wait until we all finish so we can start on the second book. Before reaching the half way point I'd ordered book two in the series knowing I wouldn't want to wait long to see what happens next. The story was exciting and engaging, and although I had many other things to do today, I just couldn't put it down. I loved Rune and how determined she was to make up for what she done. Her quick thinking in a tricky situation was something to be admired! I did wish that somehow Rune and Gideon ended up together and was slightly heartbroken but I am looking forward to seeing what becomes of the hunt in book 2.
I liked Heartless Hunter, but it was slower than I expected, especially because I had high expectations for it. At times it felt like the story was taking too long to get to the point, which made it harder for me to fully connect at the beginning.Overall, I still enjoyed the book and don’t think it was a bad read at all. I feel like the best parts were saved for the end, and that made me want to read the second book to finish the duology.
Loved this!! I felt like the history/backstop could've been more in depth bur otherwise loved it!

Ugh. I’m so annoyed with myself. Why did I put off reading this for so long?!
This book disappointed me. I didn't feel there was any chemistry between the characters and considering their motives, beliefs and suspicions of each other, it made no sense for them to "fall in love" if you could even call it that. It was reminiscent of a silly crush on the school playground. Wasn't believable for me at all. There was one gasp moment at the end, otherwise, it was wholly meh.
OH LORD! This book has me in a chokehold and I think my heart will be slightly frozen until the next book comes out😭 The romance, the TENSION, the love triangle, the plot twists, the deaths, the BETRAYAL! I fear I will never recover
