Description

As Fjerda's massive army prepares to launch an assault, Nikolai Lantsov finds himself at the center of a brewing storm. With the weight of a nation on his shoulders, he must navigate treacherous political landscapes and forge unlikely alliances to protect his kingdom. The stakes are higher than ever, and every decision could lead to victory or ruin.

In a world where loyalty is fleeting and danger lurks at every corner, Nikolai battles not only external foes but also the shadows of his past. As the conflict escalates, he faces moral dilemmas that challenge his belief in justice and sacrifice. The fate of an entire realm rests in his hands, and the choices he makes will resonate far beyond the battlefield.

I was not expecting this to cause all the previous series to converge, but it did. And it was glorious. I admit I'm not sure how well this would read if you have not read everything prior to this (my guess is fine, but without a chunk of the power of the background you get with everything), but with all that backstory--wow. I listened to the audiobook, and I was constantly chattering aloud in response to characters and events. That's normally the sign of a great book for me (though I doubt those who live with me enjoy it quite as much...), and for a book to manage to have me doing that for hours and hours is impressive.

This was nice to have finally finished all the Grishaverse books as well as the King of Scars duology.I had a great time reading this, all Leigh Bardugo books are fun to read for me. I did have a minor issue with the fact that this duo, but more so this book, felt like everything in Shadow & Bone and Six of Crows was resurrected as plot points. We had "basically" the same characters, the same antagonists, the same plot lines, it all felt somewhat repetitive. However, if a formula works, dupe it I guess! I am still glad I read and enjoyed this, was just hoping for a bit more.

The Grishaverse will be coming to Netflix soon with Shadow and Bone, an original series!

The wolves are circling and a young king will face his greatest challenge in the explosive finale of the instant #1 New York Times-bestselling King of Scars Duology.

The Demon King. As Fjerda's massive army prepares to invade, Nikolai Lantsov will summon every bit of his ingenuity and charm—and even the monster within—to win this fight. But a dark threat looms that cannot be defeated by a young king's gift for the impossible.

The Stormwitch. Zoya Nazyalensky has lost too much to war. She saw her mentor die and her worst enemy resurrected, and she refuses to bury another friend. Now duty demands she embrace her powers to become the weapon her country needs. No matter the cost.

The Queen of Mourning. Deep undercover, Nina Zenik risks discovery and death as she wages war on Fjerda from inside its capital. But her desire for revenge may cost her country its chance at freedom and Nina the chance to heal her grieving heart.

King. General. Spy. Together they must find a way to forge a future in the darkness. Or watch a nation fall.
