Description
Even in terms of recreational use, societies overwhelmingly condemn drug related offences. Rightfully perhaps, but within all communities there are often persons coming from such unfavorable conditions, the distribution of narcotics may be perceived as an opportunity to escape!
High Tide in Cherry Grove is an action adventure, character driven book of literary fiction. During and after the United States prolonged conflict in Vietnam, individuals of mixed races are introduced whose paths into smuggling drugs and the consequences of that activity are balanced between circumstances and choices complicated at the times by cultural changes, racial inequities, and a brainless war.
Trevor Lamont Dunbar was raised poor in South Carolina by a single mom, but he was smart and managed to finish high school. Because of his unfortunate social status, Trevor naturally imagined an opportunity to achieve a better life. He entered the risky trade of smuggling drugs without seriously considering the probability of being labeled a criminal. Nor did most of those he came to be closely associated with. Of course, federal and state law enforcement agencies shared a more positive but opposite perspective.
The ingenuity of these entrepreneurs who first trafficked marijuana and later cocaine is realistic and remarkable. The exploits of a few ended well. Many others were not so fortunate. Their stories are intertwined with facts, fiction, and adventures to both intrigue and educate a wide range of audience. And like the marijuana and cocaine they smuggled, their ventures are intoxicating.
