View AllA contemporary, non fantasy reimagining of Peter Pan where Hook gets the girl? I was so excited about the premise of this! As with any retelling or reimagining, I love finding those little nods to the original and I felt like they were cleverly done in this book, given there wasn’t anything magical or fantastical with the contemporary setting. However, I didn’t really care for either of our MCs and both their romance and the entire plot felt rushed. There was so much potential but I feel like a lot of the story was ignored just to focus on the smut.
From USA Today bestselling author Emily McIntire comes a dark and delicious fractured fairy tale reimagining of Peter Pan. He wants revenge, but he wants her more…
As I was a bit in a reading slump I decided to start Hooked as it was much anticipated and it was on my TBR way to long. As I love fairytales, I decided I needed to read this. To be honest the book started a bit slow for me and I was still in a reading slump it took me a bit of time to get into the book. But the moment I let myself drift away in this story it was absolutely amazing. I love the references to the Peter Pan story, the names, places etc. I think Emily really hit the mark with this as I found it really enjoyable to see some references back to the fairytale. The character building of this book was amazing and the details of the different places were amazing. The fact that this story had so many twists and turns like Jon being James brother, the fact that a lot of people you didn’t even suspected were going behind James his back, and just overall it caused me to gape and scream at my book! I cannot wait to read the other books in this series because this started off right!
