Description

The Catcher in the Rye is a 1951 American coming-of-age novel by American author J. D. Salinger. It was partially published in serial form in 1945–46 before being novelized in 1951. Originally intended for adults, it is often read by adolescents for its themes of angst and alienation, and as a critique of superficiality in society. The novel also deals with themes of innocence, identity, belonging, loss, connection, sex, and depression. The main character, Holden Caulfield, has become an icon for teenage rebellion. Caulfield, nearly of age, gives his opinion on a wide variety of topics as he narrates his recent life events.

I liked it — the language felt fresh and casual, making it an easy, enjoyable read. I’m not sure I fully grasped the deeper meaning, but I did relate to Holden’s sense of wanting to leave everything behind. It felt real.

I was surprisingly surprised how much I liked this book. For me it's one of those books where you can relate to the character and his story about his day to day life. After getting kicked out of school. I think for me the title is very misleading. When I opened this book I was expecting an old school story about the Midwest, cowboys, or hunters. Back in the western time.
