Dr. Claire Waters is haunted by her violent past, but she's determined to return her life to normalcy. One of her patients, Rosa Sanchez, has given Claire hope for a brighter future -- but then Rosa goes missing, and Claire suspects the worst. Claire enlists the help of Nick Lawler, an NYPD detective but who has been relegated to desk duty because of his failing eyesight. Waters and Lawler must unite to stop the killer who boils his victims, leaving only a pile of bones behind and a word puzzle to solve. Claire and Nick track down a killer who is hell-bent on reviving David Berkowitz's reign of terror in Manhattan.
