View AllI was cautious about this book, I loved "Never Let Me Go" and had presumed Ishiguro's other works would be along those lines. I was completely wrong as every book is different, so I was a bit disappointed by When We Were Orphans and The Buried Giant as a result (they just weren't for me). Then I read the blurb for this and couldn't resist... I couldn't put it down. I loved it, it's sad, charming and lovely. I know you shouldn't compare, there were elements of Never Let Me Go, A.I., Toy Story and Black Mirror.*A re-read and still love it*
It makes one think, mostly about the destruction of self and not just Ai, but it is bigger than that
This book left me really wanting to sit and reflect on it....absorb it and sit in the mindspace it left me in. I don't know why - I usually just truck on to the next book, but after I finished this book, I wanted to sit with my thoughts and feelings. I really liked how the book made me react as this is atypical for me.If you're looking for a quick read that leaves you in a reflective/introspective mood, this book is for you.
