It’s been a year since I read the Throne of Glass books—except for Kingdom of Ash. After a long break, I finally decided to finish the series and close this chapter once and for all.As a standalone book, Kingdom of Ash started off beautifully. The opening had me completely hooked, and I’ll admit—I shed more than a few tears. The emotional weight was definitely there. But somewhere around part two, it started to lose me. It almost felt like Sarah J. Maas herself was ready to wrap things up quickly.The long-awaited war we’ve been building up to for seven books felt rushed and fragmented. The story jumps rapidly between all sixteen POVs, and just when I was finally invested in a scene or battle, it would shift again, pulling me out of the moment. It made some of the biggest emotional punches fall flat. The ending was touching and heartfelt, but it wrapped up far too neatly for something we’ve been leading up to for years. The final confrontation especially felt over before it even began—which was such a shame.Now, the series as a whole? Absolutely incredible. It’s one of those universes that stays with you long after you close the book. These characters, this journey—it’s truly something special. Saying goodbye was harder than I expected, and I can’t help but secretly hope we’ll get a Manon book someday because that ending definitely left room for more.Kingdom of Ash — ★★★☆☆Throne of Glass series — ★★★★☆½
