Kulte und Heiligtümer der Demeter und Kore in Ionien

In this detailed exploration of the cults and sanctuaries dedicated to Demeter and Koré in Ionia, Sven Th. Schipporeit presents a comprehensive analysis of the religious practices and significance of these deities in ancient Greek society. The author delves into the historical and archaeological context, highlighting the ways in which the worship of Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and fertility, and her daughter Koré, the maiden associated with the cycle of life and death, shaped the cultural landscape of Ionia.

As Schipporeit uncovers the rich tapestry of rituals, temples, and community gatherings, readers are invited to appreciate the profound connections between the inhabitants of Ionia and their deities. With contributions from Felix Pirson and Martin Bachmann, this revised edition offers a fresh perspective on ancient worship practices, illuminating the enduring legacy of Demeter and Koré in the heart of one of the ancient world’s most vibrant regions.
