Reviews
Oh, this is one of those books. You know, the one that everyone has their own opinion on?Well here's my opinion on it - 4 stars, and I will be reading the sequel. I didn't want to read it too soon because sometimes you need a break after binge-reading 800+ pages. It has that classic fantasy plot where it builds up and lures you in, then it breaks your heart. You watch the characters get back on their feet again despite everything, and you're so proud that they did.And even if that type of story is something I've read before, Carey's unique worldbuilding and Phèdre's voice works to make this story fresh and interesting. To the point where I told myself I should go to bed at 1am, and then I told myself I should really go to bed at 3am but hey, when you start a pageturner like that you might as well finish it.And for what everyone talks about - I had a bigger expectation on what the sex scenes would be like from all the commotion and was pleasantly surprised they were not that explicit and not that frequent. On the romance, it was done very slightly then progressed to the point where I was yelling at them "Get together already!" so yeah I guess I ship them.By the way Ms. Carey, when you finish the book with that kind of sequel hook, please think of my poor eyeballs, I'm too old for these marathon binge-reading sessions.Again, 4 stars and I recommend this if you're a fan of fantasy. If you need me, I'm on my way to the sequel.
