Description

Le Bibliothè Des Ames Chrétiennes, Collection Des Oeuvres.Des Pères Et Des Docteurs De L'eglise is a medieval devotional treatise by Saint Bonaventure, presented as a dialogue between a Soul and an Agent called the Man. The text guides readers through four exercises of spiritual to reflect inwardly on how the soul is formed, to turn outward to contemplate worldly wealth and vanity, to look downward at mortality and judgment, and to gaze upward toward the joys of heaven. Drawing on patristic authorities such as Bernard, Augustine, and Gregory, it emphasizes humility, contrition, grace, and the hope of eternal life. The work is framed by a Preface and Biographical Notice about Saint Bonaventure, and is translated by Ernest Mézière for the Bibliothèque des Ames Chrétiennes, with editions issued in Paris (1839) and later notes in 1859. It remains a foundational meditation on virtue, spiritual ascent, and the divine life.
