Description
Excerpt from Lectures, Explanatory and Practical: On the Epistle of Saint Paul to the Romans
The Epistle, which it is the object of the fol lowing Lectures to explain, may be regarded as forming, in some respects, the most important part of the Sacred Writings. For though all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and we are bound to acknowledge the same divine autho rity in every portion of the sacred volume; yet it by no means derogates, either from the perfection of the Scriptures, or from the honour of that Spirit under whose immediate influence they were writ ten, to ascribe to some parts a superior excellence and importance, and to conceive of others as hav ing only a subordinate use.
