Description
Devon is part of The Family, an old and reclusive clan of book eaters. Her brothers grow up feasting on stories of valor and adventure, and Devon—like all other book eater women—is raised on a carefully curated diet of fairy tales and cautionary stories.
But real life doesn't always come with happy endings, as Devon learns when her son is born with a rare and darker kind of hunger—not for books, but for human minds.

View AllThis is a beautiful gothic tale of creatures that appear human but feast on books. However, there are some Eaters who are born wanting to eat minds instead! The vibes of this book were a mix of gothic fantasy, and urban supernatural. This book is great for people who want an accessible read, a bit of queer rep, a FMC who is older and a mother, horror-ish vibes and something that doesn't have the normal type of monsters.Personally I had an issue with the lack of background lore and the "magic" of these creatures could of also had more depth too.-> 3.5 starsI had a great time reading it. I will definitely recommend this in the future.
⭐️2-2.25Despite a great cover and a compelling cover and title that draws you in, this book was underwhelming. In spite of the book's attempts to explore certain aspects that are interesting on their own, such as motherhood, womanhood, and humanity, it's done in such a dull, meh way that it feels uninspired.Upon learning why Devon is on the run with her son, Cai, and meeting Hester, the book becomes incredibly predictable and tedious, devoid of any urgency or thrill. There was a point where I was just getting through the book to get through it, without any deep interest in the characters, most of whom were flat, and not caring about where the book was heading. In fact the more chapters I read the more boring this book became.Overall, this was an extremely bland book that had the potential to be much better. Not surprised by the number of readers who DNF-ed this book. They made the right decision.
New author to me, concept was intriguing. World Building was decent, but I found that the book dragged. The last quarter took me forever to get through, I put it down several times, and it didn't call me to finish.Rating this one is hard. I wanted to like it, but I just struggled to get through it too much.2- 2.5 🌟
