Description

In a world filled with familial expectations and chaotic relationships, Jesse Q. Sutanto weaves a story that is both humorous and poignant. The protagonist finds herself ensnared in the trials of her family life, desperately seeking a way to break free from the overwhelming pressure and love that surrounds her. She embarks on a journey that’s as much about self-discovery as it is about navigating the complexities of love and loyalty.

The narrative dives deep into the trials faced by someone who longs for independence yet is tethered to a family that often feels like a suffocating force. The protagonist's escapades are both relatable and entertaining, reflecting the intricate balance many feel between pursuing personal dreams and honoring familial bonds. Sutanto's clever writing shines through in the witty dialogues and the vivid portrayals of familial dynamics.

As the protagonist encounters various characters and situations, she learns to redefine what love means to her. Through laughter, tears, and unexpected revelations, she gradually discovers that sometimes, to embrace love fully, one must first learn to navigate the delicate art of letting go. The story resonates with those who have ever grappled with the duality of love for family and the yearning for personal freedom.

3,6Bon livre, mais un peu trop d'absurdités et de revirement de situation a mon goût

4.25☆'sI bought this series after being recommended them. After only a chapter or two, I knew I was going to love them. There was something in every chapter that made me smile or laugh out loud, having to read sections to my family, who also laughed along. I loved the family dynamics, the bickering between the Aunties mixed with the loyalty of having each others back when something major happened. The mixup in language, along with the meanings through generations, was hilarious to read. I'm so pleased I chose these books and have already got book two out ready to start tomorrow!A brilliant choice as the first read of the year ♡

2.5 stars rounded to 3 stars. This was a book club read-a-along. Everyone was mad at me including myself because we thought this would be a mystery instead of people running around and nothing happening. oops.I really wish I could've liked this book. But maybe the author could've had the MC actually grow a backbone and develop her own personality in the story instead about worrying what her mom and aunts would think all the time. We had to go through so much of Meddy wanting to keep the peace and then when she finally exploded on her mom and aunts on her family dynamics, it only resulted in a monumental centimeter of growth. Even the epilogue where its revealed she moved out of her mom's place but not that far away and her mom still comes over everyday?! girl, go to therapy.Romance was a joke because the love interest was just a Hot Guy and there was nothing else to him. He was perfect and he was just perfect in everything.I appreciated the efforts from the author to bring in her personal experiences to inform the story and the Asian representation here. That's 1.5 stars right there.
