Description

On 20th November 1971 the Association for Scottish Literary Studies held a on-day conference on Scottish language which was the first on its theme ever held. A second conference on Lowland Scots, organised by the Association's Language Sub-Committee in association with Edinburgh University's Department of Educational Studies and Moray House College of Education and held in Edinburgh on 12 and 13 May 1972, covered in outline the entire chronological span of the recorded history of Scots, with contributions on each of the important divisions in this history - Middle Scots, Modern Literary Scots and present-day Scots in its spoken form. This book contains revised versions of the four principal papers at this conference and their accompanying illustrative texts.
