Description

Bingtown is a hub of exotic trade and home to a merchant nobility famed for its liveships—rare vessels carved from wizardwood, which ripens magically into sentient awareness. Now the fortunes of one of Bingtown's oldest families rest on the newly awakened liveship Vivacia.

For Althea Vestrit, the ship is her rightful legacy. For Althea's young nephew, wrenched from his religious studies and forced to serve aboard the ship, the Vivacia is a life sentence. But the fate of the ship—and the Vestrits—may ultimately lie in the hands of an outsider: the ruthless buccaneer captain Kennit, who plans to seize power over the Pirate Isles by capturing a liveship and bending it to his will.

It's got more mature themes and wording that the previous series. A tonal shift to something darker but not overall heartbreaking for each character, which is something I had to watch out for because this author makes her characters SUFFER. Overall the mystery that's in my world building has me coming back for more.

Okay I took breaks for holidays and because I’m lazy. But the start to the Liveship Traders was 9/10. Hobb did it again, I was a little worried leaving Fitz to join a new cast of characters for a couple books but she made it simple. Never have I read an author that can get you attached to characters as quickly as Hobb does. Pirates. Serpents. Betrayal. And the Vestrit Family. 9/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.9

The first book in a seafaring fantasy trilogy that George R. R. Martin has described as “even better than the Farseer Trilogy—I didn’t think that was possible.”
