Making Sense in Common: A Reading of Whitehead in Times of Collapse

In an era marked by uncertainty and fracture, two prominent thinkers delve into the vital discourse surrounding “common sense” as a foundation for understanding. They explore how the philosophies of Whitehead can illuminate pathways to reconcile the gaps between science and the humanities. Through their nuanced analysis, they invite readers to reconsider what constitutes shared knowledge and experience in contemporary society.

The authors examine the pressing need for dialogue in moments of crisis, emphasizing how innovative thought can bridge divides. By revisiting Whitehead’s ideas, they challenge conventional perceptions and encourage a reawakening of collective intelligence. This fresh perspective seeks to revitalize a sense of interconnectedness amid the fragmentation of modern life.

Stengers and Lamarre advocate for a thoughtful approach to knowledge that transcends disciplinary boundaries. Their work serves as a clarion call for collaboration in an age that often prioritizes specialization over integration, ultimately aiming to foster a more harmonious understanding of the world.
