I started this book thinking it was going to be devestating. It was heart wrenching but i think my expectations were too high about the amount of heart break id experience, it almosy felt underwhelming. But objectively, still a great book. The first half was depressing and it was hard to see how it would ever end up being a love story but it was very intriguing to see how each character fit into the world that they were pushed into. The switch to the flashbacks felt abrupt and i was hesitant but it was most definitely the most touching part of the story. The relationship between the main characters was tragic and built to be a doomed love story. The way they depended on each other and sacrificed so much but could never tell anyone else. I genuinely thought it wouldn't be a happy ending so it felt a little bit lacking. I spent the last few chapters with my breath held and tense expecting someone to die or lose their memories but it didn't happening which was a relief but also felt like it wasn't enough storywise. But a good book if you go in without these sky high expectations.
