Description
Today wireless is everywhere. It is hard to imagine that it all started in 1895 when 21-year-old Guglielmo Marconi made his first wireless transmission over land. As a result, Guglielmo became the boy wonder of the world. Now, students from Cape Cod speak directly with cosmonauts in space as easily as citizens from one nation are able to speak world-wide on an individual or collective basis. With his feat, Marconi ushered in the Age of Communication.
As a boy, however, Guglielmo had lots of problems with school. He was unable to handle the standard curriculum of his time. On noting her son’s difficulties, his Irish mother, Annie Jameson, quickly provided special tutoring. Like Einstein, the rest is history!
When Marconi transmitted messages from Canada to England, he convinced the world on the feasibility of his discovery. In 1903, from Cape Cod’s Wellfleet, Marconi allowed President Theodore Roosevelt and His Majesty, Edward VII to exchange messages. From here on, Marconi continued on his quest to become a great scientist for which he was granted the Nobel Prize.
