Description

I first chose to "light" dnf this book, then picked it back up a few weeks later... Here are my final thoughts : This book is about Luc, a young man feeling overrun by his life. His parents are retired rock stars so he feels like he is always under a spotlight he doesn’t want. He decides to get a “fake boyfriend” to boost his public image and be more “socially acceptable” since he is only known for drinking, smoking and sleeping around. So this book revolves around a fake dating trope and a mlm relationship.  The writing in this book is very easy to read, the sentences are pretty short and fast-paced. The overall pace of this book is a little slower, but the sentences and how they read make it the perfect pace to enjoy a fun story and escape in their lives and story. However, some scenes where they’re in restaurants, or in social settings to gain sponsors for the CRAPP for example sometimes felt a little longer than necessary and they could get a little boring and I saw myself skipping across the page to finish the chapter.  I had a hard time getting into the book, which I think is because of the main character Luc (or Lucien). I felt like Lucien was just always complaining about how terrible his life, his relations and his mental health were, without ever taking any action to change it. He wouldn’t even consider trying to change something. I can understand having a hard time changing the course of your life, but I cannot understand not even wanting to change and just complaining about it. I am also because I think the author probably wrote him this way because the point was for Oliver to help him change and evolve. However, it was a real turnoff for me, as a reader. Oliver though is a great character, I feel like the way he was written was super interesting and we could see him open up and reveal his personality at a pace which felt very appropriate and followed how his personality was explained. He is multidimensional, interesting, open-minded and compassionate. After the 50% mark, I loved their relationship's path and how he helped Lucien realise he could change and be a better person, for the people around him and for himself. Overall, it’s a 3 stars for me, the book was good, nut nothing felt amazing or mindblowing. The last few chapters also felt a little rushed, but since the whole book was so much longer, I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if the last few chapters were longer and the rest of the book a little faster-paced.
