Milwaukee Avenue

In "Milwaukee Avenue," Kevin Coval weaves a rich tapestry of urban experiences through the lens of a single extended poem. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant streets of Chicago, he captures the essence of a bustling city life, reminiscent of the style of Frank O'Hara. The poem unfolds as a journey along a significant thoroughfare, blending personal narratives with evocative observations.

Langston Allston's artistic illustrations complement Coval's evocative words, creating a dynamic interplay between text and image. Together, they invite readers to explore themes of identity, community, and the ever-changing landscape of urban existence, making this work a poignant reflection on the beauty and complexity of city living.
