Description

View AllI've Got Your Number was the first Sophie Kinsella book I read. From there, I quickly moved on to My Not-So-Perfect Life, and then to this: Can You Keep a Secret. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous two books, but this one... ugh. Every character was tedious and contrived. Fucking Emma, ohmygod, was constantly a damsel in distress, even though she created her own fucking problems by lying to literally everyone. She's always 'too paralysed to speak' and can't stand up for herself even a little bit. And why can she never finish a sentence?? THEY'RE HER OWN THOUGHTS! SHE'S NOT SAYING IT TO ANYONE! FINISH. THE. FUCKING. THOUGHT! Jemima was horrendously exhausting right up until the end. I was genuinely hoping for an unexpected and out-of-genre torture/death scene for her. Kinsella took all of the worst qualities people possess (lying, deceiving, plotting, not listening, deliberately causing harm) and threw them at every character and then .... expected us to love them??????? Garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage. This book was a colossal waste of my time and in the end, only made me angry. Two stars because, while so so so much of this book was utter crap, I did like Jack.
