I was surprised by how funny this was. It is a cute, funny and sometimes spicy read. Definitely recommend.
This is so cute, I want a vampire that makes fruit when he's nervous too
I really like the dry humor and the "I have no idea what I'm doing here because I've been asleep pmfor 100 years" vibes, even if the latter became a bit repetitive at one point. I just couldn't fully get into the book because I couldn't picture Frederick as anything other than a grandpa and I had to keep reminding myself that he is more Mr. Darcy and less Ebenezer Scrooge. (I also had a very deep antipathy to Cassie, but I won't elaborate on that).
Cute, funny, and romantic! Hundreds year old vampire that knows nothing of the real world is actually hilarious.
I had seen a lot of people posting about Jenna Levine's 'My Roommate is a Vampire', and my curiosity was peaked. A full Bookstagram made me do it a moment, and I wasn't disappointed. This was a fun, often quirky romcom with the obvious paranormal elements. The characters are excellently written and very much opposite in personality alongside their ability to have a heartbeat! Cassie's an artist whose style is quirky and life hasn't been easy and with nowhere to live, she finds herself taking up the opportunity to be a roommate to Frederick, a Vampire who has no concept of how the modern world works. This debut novel from Levine, has just the right amount of corniness that makes the tale of Cassie and Frederick cute as they face day to day obstacles for example, why is it so hard to order a coffee, and why does there need to be so many choice? Then there is the chaos that comes from Frederick and a history he doesn't want to have deal with as vampires appear to still live with values from centuries ago, and he's not impressed! The chemistry between Cassie and Frederick grows exponentially, and yet, it feels dare I say it; natural as long as you don't mind your crush being a couple of centuries older than you. I love the way both of our protagonists have fantastic friends in their corners and add a further dimension to their lives and journey to their own self-discoveries. This adds so much to the story in a simple but well-done manner as well as the way the day to day city life is written. Both elements are so well done and sweep the reader into this unusual love story. This is a great quick read with a hint of spice at the end and was perfect for a cool day with a mug of hot chocolate in my personal opinion.
I spent a whole month winning, to any and every person willing to listen, about how I wanted to read this book. When I finally got my copy I started having doubts about how much I was actually going to like it. Now I’ve read it and I’m absolutely in love with everything: Cassie’s weird thoughts, Frederick’s diary… I’m not a big fan of romance novels, but I’m a huge fan of anything vampire related so I knew this book was something I could enjoy outside my usual fantasy novels. I do not regret the choice, nor the unhealthy amount of incoherent messages I’ve sent to my friends about how this story made just “aaahfghgusisif” every other page.I’m pretty sure this book is about to become one of my comfort readings, which include Dracula and Scream for us. In short, read this book. Even if it’s not what you’re used to, you're at the very least, going to have a good laugh and a fun time.
