My Uncle's Dunkirk

When Mick Manning was a boy, his uncle never talked about the Second World War, even though he had been in the Royal Artillery. But sometimes during seaside holidays, Mick felt his uncle was remembering a different seaside where, alongside thousands of other soldiers, he had once waited for rescue - a place called Dunkirk.
Inspired by his uncles's experiences Mick Manning's simple but moving story invites children to travel from the safe familiarity of a seaside holiday to the beaches of Dunkirk to discover one of Britain's most tragic and heroic wartime events.
