Description

Obasan weaves a poignant narrative that explores the complexities of identity and memory through a child's perspective. Joy Kogawa brings to life the experiences of a Japanese Canadian family during World War II, as they face hardship and displacement. The innocence of childhood contrasts sharply with the harsh realities of a society grappling with prejudice and loss, creating an emotional depth that resonates throughout the story.

As the child navigates the blurred lines between past and present, the novel captures the essence of resilience and the importance of family ties. It invites readers to reflect on the impacts of history and the enduring power of love and understanding, making it a truly unforgettable journey.

I disliked this enough to forget to mark it as read. This one really was too annoying with its depiction of "love" and women that I was just having a terrible time pushing through very questionable thought processes and dialogues. It's disappointing since I thought this could be a new favorite (given my love for fairies/fae folk since childhood)
