Very crazy and insane, kinda cant get over who she slept with by the end tho
The atmosphere in Sharp Objects is exactly what I expected from Gillian Flynn—dark, unsettling, and dripping with small-town secrets. The writing style is sharp and kept me hooked at first.But honestly, I figured out who the killer was about halfway through, and that really killed the suspense for me. From that point on, I was just waiting for the story to catch up instead of being surprised.Still, I appreciated the raw look at trauma, dysfunctional family ties, and Camille’s struggles. The book is definitely disturbing and well-written, but the mystery itself lost its edge too early.Worth reading, but not my favorite book of the year.
⭐️1-1.5This book makes 'Gone Girl' seem like a masterpiece, and that’s saying something. It’s an incredibly dark read, and I found the story downright disturbing, problematic, and unpleasant. The premise may be intriguing and unsettling, but it crosses a line—it's simply too much. Everything in this book is miserable, from the grim setting to the characters in the town, who are depicted as deeply flawed and downright strange. Camille, the protagonist, comes across as quite condescending, even though I did feel some sympathy for her at times, especially in relation to her complicated relationship with her mother.Reading this book was an awful experience, and I often found myself wishing it would just end. There were moments I really wished had been toned down, particularly the disturbing depictions of sexual promiscuity at disturbingly young ages, including actions involving literal children. It made me extremely uncomfortable.Also, one of my biggest issues with mystery thrillers is when the story doesn’t seem to move forward in solving the mystery, and this one definitely fell into that trap. The plot lacked any real tension or excitement, dragging on with grotesque details that made me feel like we were getting nowhere. It took forever for anything to actually happen, and when the ending finally came, it was incredibly underwhelming.Overall, loved by many and regarded as an amazing read, I personally found it deeply disturbing. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, not even my worst enemy.
I'm not sure why I didn't expect this to be so dark, but I mostly enjoyed it. It's a good mystery that has you thinking until the end.
Very chiling book that can be quite triggering in the language it uses - keeps you hooked on second guessing yourself and not wanting to believe what you have read
