Description

Amid the tumultuous backdrop of the Scottish Highlands in the 18th century, a former combat nurse named Claire Beauchamp finds herself inexplicably transported through time. Initially on her honeymoon in 1945, she suddenly loops back to 1743, where she encounters a world fraught with danger and intrigue. As she grapples with her new reality, Claire becomes entwined with the rugged yet charming Highlander, Jamie Fraser, navigating not only her growing feelings for him but also the perilous political landscape of the time.

In her struggle to return to her own time, Claire’s journey unravels the complexities of love, loyalty, and the relentless pull of destiny. Faced with daunting choices, she must reconcile her past with her present, leading to heart-wrenching decisions that will change the course of her life forever. The vivid depiction of historical events, along with richly drawn characters, immerses the reader in a sweeping adventure that transcends time and space.

Well written, fast paced, interesting plot altogether, but I started falling off and not really listening about half way through, rewinding 3 or 4 times, in order to finally hear the story, not only listen to it. Some (long) scenes I consider excessive - at the time I thought they had some kind of impact on the “future” of the story, but was disappointed to find out it was in the end some kind of filler in the already very long book. Book keeps you captivated, I can’t deny that though. I’m not sure what I was really expecting going in - I postponed reading it for so long - time travel is not an easy subject. I guess I was waiting for more fantasy components added to the “witching” through time perspective, doctoring and such, or at least more of it. I find it rather odd that the shock of finding yourself in another time is non existent, not for Claire, nor for Jamie. They are just accepting it after figuring out that that’s what happened. For me - this was not believable and I would guess all the ramifications of being from the future in a world 200 years prior would have been different. But that’s just my opinion. The feeling is rather controversial. I will read the next book, as it seems that the ratings are better than for the first and maybe, just maybe, further development will be more logical and feel adjusted, all things considered.
