Description
In 1773, when Oglethorpe brought his first shipload of ex-prisoners to the mouth of the Savannah River, it was very doubtful whether the colony would survive more than a few weeks. The Spanish were pushing fiercely in from the South, the French savagely from the West, and the Indians from all sides. The situation demanded extraordinary leadership and James Edward Oglethorpe provided just that.
