That was nuts. I hardly have words for how good this book was. I loved how it started in the mines. The biological transformation was insane. I loved every part of the war game. The characters were amazing, I connected deeply with Darrow. Roque and Sevro were perfection. I couldn't stop thinking about Eo in all Darrow's decisions. All the cultural references back to ancient civilizations, like Rome/Greek gods, was fascinating too considering the "progress" made and time that has passed since Earth was all there was.
I'm a fan of sci-fi so I expected the word tech terms. However, some things could have been explained a little more or given more context. The world building was beautiful, though I do wish a little more detail was given to certain settings.
This was a fast-paced, not YA, sci-fi dystopian that I ate up like a pack of oreos. I'm dying to know what happens next. And what do you know, Golden Son just got delivered!
Pierce, despite belief, we cannot read your mind. Introducing your dreamt ideas without any explanation was cruel and unusual. This book takes forever to read because of all the re-reading and fake nouns. Really hoping you start offering more details as the series goes on or you’re gonna lose me fast. For now, enough action goes on each page to lock me in. To those trying to get started — good fucking luck!
Good book. 70% is build up and world building. Took a MINUTE to get through. Once it starts going it's hard to put down. Great character building. Many plot twists within the same chapter. Ending made mad, but excited to get to the next book.
Insanely unique idea and the writing is so compelling. I usually don't like first person perspective but the way Pierce writes Darrow is so different from any other first person perspective books I've read.
Making up different names for a communal shower "flush" and alcohol distilled fungus "grendel" is too much world building, it turns me off.
It turned out to be a better story than I thought, once you got passed all the world building.

⋆. 𐙚 ˚four / five stars ✰funny thing, watching gods realize they’ve been mortal all along.i was honestly not expecting to enjoy this as much as i did, and sort of went in with zero expectations, so this was the most pleasant surprise.this is promoted by a lot of readers as ‘hunger games in space,’ and, well, i fear i did not like the hunger games (i know i know i’m sorry) because it just bored to me to no end. i was so scared that red rising was going to fall flat in the same way but actually ... no! it didn’t give hunger games very much to me, except for the whole set up of this ‘game’ that the characters are in, and even then it just feels loosely inspired by it. this gave more lord of the flies to me, with the exploration of depravity and the effect of isolation on humans, showing us just how primal and animalistic we can be when put in the right (wrong?) situations. also a bit of a cult mentality exploration, which is always so fascinating to me.the biggest strength of this novel, either way, was the characters. darrow took a bit to grow on me but he eventually did, and i so unexpectedly got attached to the side characters as well. i really hope cassius doesn’t turn into the villain sigh i loved his character so much. but also sevro and mustang and roque and everyone else!!! i just know being so invested in everyone is going to make this series hurt me so much more, so everyone wish me luck 😀realllly enjoyed pierce brown’s writing as well. was so unbelievably bingeable, and as someone who isn’t much of a sci fi reader, it was easy to get through. i did listen to the graphic audio for a bit at the beginning and around the halfway point, but other than that i was so locked in.now am so excited to continue the series because everyone says it’s just up from here!! and considering how invested i already was in the story and the characters in this book, when people say that it’s meh and that you have to continue the series, i am purely on the edge of my seat for them. new obsession (potentially) unlocked.𐙚⋆.˚pre-readi’m 80 pages in and already so much of it is scarily applicable to real life 😃
Começo confuso e maçante, lento e até um pouquinho chato, mas depois dos 50/ 55% ai meu amigo o negocio vai ficando louco KKKKK. Apesar de tudo gostei muito da leitura, pensei em desistir várias vezes no início, mas fico feliz de ter continuado e perseverado

While I get the hype that this story has attached to it, I still have to point out that Darrow is very much a Gary Stu. Perfect little young lad that just figures it out every single time. It's a four because of the authors exciting writing style.
Bloodydamn good book! Great story, easy read, absolutely gripping. Pierce Brown kills it with the character development of Darrow, my only flaw with this book is that he has a tendency to jump time and plot within paragraphs, sometimes makes it hard to keep track of where we are. Other than that I loved Red Rising!2nd read through. 8/10Loved it more the second time!!! HAIL REAPER!!
I guess I enjoyed it? The writing is (mostly) good, many surprising twists, I loved the word building and I actually liked some of the characters. That's rare.But the message I think Brown tried to tell got lost in this hunger games world. Sadly. I liked it. Nonetheless fun if you don't want to think much while reading! I'm excited to start part two!
