Renegades

El primer libro que leí, vale la pena leerlo la verdad, es una historia maravillosa y los personajes son lo mejor

Muy entretenido. Me sorprendió que al final si me atrapara la historia.

“one cannot be brave who has no fear.”3.5? i think? maybe? ever notice how i’m terrible at giving ratings?as someone who loves marvel movies, and who gave vicious by ve schwab five stars, i was really excited to get into this series.and then it took me 37 days to finish book one.if you haven’t heard of this, it’s essentially a heroes vs villains book while bringing up the question of what is really good? evil? we follow nova, an anarchist (villains), trying to get revenge on the renegades (heroes) for something that happened when she was a child. but when she meets adrian, a renegade, and his team, she starts to wonder if her motives are misplaced. the plot served. it was so interesting and again, who doesn’t love a classic superhero story? the action scenes had me on the edge of my seat and the cases of secret identities constantly on the verge of being revealed had me screaming. i also enjoyed the dystopian sort of society that was going on, and the questions of if the renegades were actually beneficial for it.the characters served. nova’s a classic antihero, adrian’s such a golden retriever hero. the anarchists – leroy, honey, ingrid, phobia – were a nice comedic relief (specifically leroy. i adore him.). i didn’t love the renegades outside of adrian’s team, but i do understand the purpose of their characters.the writing served. this was 552 pages but so bingeable and easy to read. i don’t know what drugs marissa meyer has in her keyboard, but i wish she’d share with every other author!so you might be asking, what didn’t serve?and to that i would say, the pacing.remember the part where i said this took me over a month to read? yeah? that’s because this was impossible to get into. i remember sitting in my living room at page 130 and complaining to my mom about the lack of plot. considering the book started with this assassination attempt/action scene, i thought we were going to have an action-packed, fast paced story from page one. the joke was on me!if you pick this up, be prepared for nothing to really start happening until the 40-50% mark. once nova goes to the trials, the story picks up quite a bit.but even then, the pacing was just so weird. it was a constant cycle of calm -> buildup -> action -> aftermath -> repeat. except the “calm” part took up twice as many pages than anything else. it made it rough to want to keep reading at certain points.therefore ... 3.5, i’m pretty sure. if this would’ve been 100 pages shorter and had the mindless parts of the book taken out, it would’ve had five star potential. also WHAT WAS THAT ENDING!! clearly i’ll be continuing the series bc how could i not?
