Description

This two-volume set contains the proceedings of the July 1999 conference convened by the International Association for the Study of Child Language. Ninety-nine contributions (most presented in English, with a few in French and Spanish) are arranged in sections on bilingualism, discourse, phonology, language disorders, lexicon, morphology, syntax, and signed languages. A sampling of topics: morphological and phonological awareness in the onset of literacy, the social use of DM iBueno/i in Basque-speaking children, styles of parent-child book reading in Japanese families, a development analysis of narrative cohesion in Gallego, and why Tzotzil (Mayan) children prefer verbs-the role of linguistic and cultural factors over cognitive determinants. A list of contributors' e-mail addresses is provided. The volumes are not indexed. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
